METROUL
Salut!
Un politician celebru, cu nume, Charles de Gaulle, obişnuia să spună: ?I have against me the bourgeois, the military and the diplomats, and for me, only the people who take the Metro?.
THE METRO
Hello! I?m Rick, the English engineer passionate about statistics and today I invite you into the depths of the Capital City. Do you know the link between the subway?s capacity and political trust?
The above- ground public transportation system in the 70s, though 4th largest in the world, was no longer coping. That?s how this snake appeared, consisting of 52 stops with 750,000 people waiting patiently every day to squeeze in. Between 1979, when the first pickax was thrown, and 2008 Bucharest has gained 71 kms of subway. This means roughly 2.5 kms a year. A lot, a little? it doesn?t even matter!
A famous politician, Charles de Gaulle, used to say: ?I have against me the bourgeois, the military and the diplomats, and for me only the people who take the Metro (not sure about this bit?).? How would a similar Metrorex barometer sound? Pretty well if spoken by mayor Oprescu. Even better if spoken by Yury Luzhkov, the mayor of Moscow, where 6.8 milion people take the subway every day.
I?m certainly not a political analyst but I?d say: ?You want votes? Give us subway!? ;)
